Not a good weekend...
Not a good weekend...
Just finished a 6 hour drive home from Northumberland. We have taken the boys up to see my Mum; we learned last week her cancer had returned. She has had an awful last two years. She had a huge last Spring, followed by chemo. She had a schizophrenic reaction and was then sectioned (so she only had 3 of 8 scheduled chemo sessions) for almost 6 months. She slowly improved, gained weight and was allowed home, albeit it with twice daily care visits.
She now has been diagnosed with cancer in four separate locations, liver, brain etc. Inoperable. Which is beside the point, she wouldn't survive another op. She is skeletal and breathing is laboured. Incredibly difficult to see her in this condition. But we managed to make her laugh this weekend, so I shall count that as a small success.
No pity sought. Just wanted a release that isn't my wife for a change.

A difficult journey, GH. Going all that way - and back - with such a heavy emotional burden.
At least you made her laugh.
Wishing you much strength in the coming time.

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

Re: Not a good weekend...
Good that you're talking about it...and good that you're still making each other laugh.
My Dad had dementia. Towards the end, the only time he remembered anything very clearly was when I played him his old music tapes. Consequently we spent most early evenings singing Irish rebel songs as loud as we could manage.
