Vinyl finally beats Digital, and by a long chalk.
Re: Vinyl finally beats Digital, and by a long chalk.
Thanks Doc. Just never experienced such a night and day change for the better with my new cartridges in the past.

Not any more, my digital has caught up with my analogue, and in some ways overtaken it. THOUGH I haven't had the TT on with the pro stacks, not enough room. Once the they go to applemarc then I am putting in a table so I have room for both TT and Digi.

Chris, I've told you before - IT'S YOU!!!!! - and maybe a little bit the DL110alfafan123 wrote:As ever late to this thread but have to agree with DSJR. My LP12/G707/DL-110 initially sounded OK but was comprehensively outclassed by my el cheapo Denon CD player.....until one day I played Simple Minds Real Life, bl**dy hell it was fantastic. It now sounds great on all genre.
So all of a sudden my deck seems to have come on song. I have not made any adjustments to setup or position. I just don't get it? Can running in a new cartridge with a few more hours really make this much difference? Thought I would ask you whether you had a similar experience or any ideas?
cheers
Chris
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

In the eternal digital/analogue debate both sides have advantages. As a hobbyist I think it is actually more to do with the individual who spends time, energy and care in setting up his music source as best he can. Be it a TT or a DAC.
Some have an understanding of turntables, arms, cartridges and Styli. Some are more into data-streams and processing. Eventually the effort pays off and you get the sound you want from the equipment you have. And the only really important thing is that the music sounds great.

Well I have been working for a couple of month on my Digi and it has overtaken my Anal Sooo when I get the space and my G99 back and maybe some frigging with my PL71 as it is completely unfrigged, then I may take it back to preferring the Anal (no I am not joining PFM, I am banned ).

Maybe my next project will be to get my Logic DM101 running again. It has a good Syrinx LE1 arm, but the motor packed in years ago. Is/was a top class TT.

Re: Vinyl finally beats Digital, and by a long chalk.
And tape trumps vinyl and digital in my systems. At a stupidly high cost for the tapes.
2nd hand CD's cost me about 50p each.
2nd hand vinyl about £1.75.
Tapes £20 to £200. Maybe averaging around £70.
So it's basically CD's for post 1990 music.
Vinyl for pre 1985 recordings.
Tapes for champagne special treat listening.

I wish I had room and the time for a good R to R. BUT only one that takes 10.5 inch reels as they look so cool real hi-fi jewelry.
