For me, Dean Altos were everything I dislike about Martin Colloms as a speaker designer when up against a coloured main driver/cabinet combo. Just raise the tweeter up a bit to draw attention away from the faults in the mid. He did this with some bigger MA's he designed in the 70's, the Deans and also the early MF speakers I remember. Sorry chaps, I only like to hear treble when it's actually there, not all the time..

The NS10, Linn Kan and a number of smaller AVI passive speakers all share a severely peaked up upper mid passing for 'detail!' It's totally wrong in my opinion and once you get used to this at home, every other more naturally balanced speaker sounds boomy and tizzy as well (note Ash James' mantra here on all passive speakers sounding like this). 'proper' monitors may have a small mid lift (many modern ATC's and the well loved NS1000's set 'flat'), but not the nasty screech of the models I mention above..
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

IIRC Gromit bought a pair off me way back when.
I did indeed have a pair - lovely speakers, took a bit of driving though. I got mine off eBay - not sure if it was you Andrew? I did sell them on to a chap named Andrew though (Cartman on PFM?).
Silly me. It was the other way round, I got them off you

On the subject of small speakers.....
Any ideas on how to give the Bass a bit of a lift, without adding a subwoofer.

Push the speaker further back to the wall or corner.
