Re: The Analog Kid
Trial setup. See how it works.
The monoblocks are spaced with 4 glass tea-light holders in a cosmetically-cool dark blue. Now just switched back on and warming up.
Due to the extremely short i/c cables the preamp is right up against the power amps. Some reorganisation will eventually be needed.
Initial impression is more bass and an airier, more spacious soundfield.

Re: The Analog Kid
Just get a acrylic company to cut 15mm squares for you. It will be cheap as chips.
My armboards , 100mmx 320mmx 15mm , were a fiver each.

Re: The Analog Kid
Oh dear, I appear to have an extra NVA amp. Whatever can I do with it?
Yay!
Now the Kenwood amp has a phono section and the Debut TT is sitting around - as are the Cubes upstairs.
Hmmm....

Re: The Analog Kid
Been diagnosed with RBSS (Rabid Box-Swapper Syndrome), a relatively-unknown side-effect of the Delta Variant.
There is little/no hope of recovery.

Re: The Analog Kid
It's been quiet on the Hifi front at Fretless Manor as the first residential training group of the autumn season is in this weekend. The last week has seen a panic-level flurry of activity trying to get the garden looking less like a jungle - the wet, mild summer has been wonderful for everything green and the whole place was completely overgrown.
Also the cool weather has necessitated firing up the biomass central heating far earlier than usual.
Anyway, Hifi - the integration of my best digital front-end and the refurbished turntable into a single system is providing much pleasure and I can switch between sources as the mood takes me.
The Grado MCZ cartridge is living up to its semi-legendary status and provides a rich, immersive experience.
On the 'Dark Side', the Denafrips Ares is turning out smoothly crisp sounds with a slightly drier, punchier character than the TT - but no less musical. I can see that the performance of both is fairly equal as I'm buying CDs again after a half-year of exclusively vinyl acquisition.
It's only Rock n Roll - but I like it.

Re: The Analog Kid
Biomass powered hifi - that would be quite something I have often thought about powering my collection ov transformers, diodes, capacitors, resistors, opamps and transistors with my own farts. Should be quite a sensory experience but runs the risk of sounding a bit flat (like a pair of those BBC music killing speakers which cost an absolute fortune and are worshipped by deaf people).Fretless wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 8:53 am It's been quiet on the Hifi front at Fretless Manor as the first residential training group of the autumn season is in this weekend.
