Dire Straits, before they started filling stadiums. Eagles, Springsteen,.and I'd like to have been around to see Jimi too. Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band, when both Albert Lee and James Burton were in the band...

Re: Bands / artists you would love to see live in their prime
One of my biggest regrets, going back to the late 70's again was missing out on a gig in Manchester with Graham Parker & the Rumour with Southside Johnny and the Astbury Dukes. What a bill, I can't recall exactly why I didn't go (money, or rather lack of probably), but I was gutted when my mates told me all about it the next day!
Also, same late 70's period, I also missed out on a prime Thin Lizzy gig at the Manchester Apollo. Loved that band yet never quite made it to see them live. When I think of some of the dross I've seen over the years it still galls.

I was lucky enough to see McCartney (Wings) and Elton at their prime, 75 and 76. They were my first two gigs which left a big impression. Have seen the Stones a few times in recent decades and they can still cut it. Jagger never had much of a voice to begin with. Daltrey still delivers in the studeo but that was not the case when I saw the Who a few years back. He had a throat infection and the concert was cut short. Had a ticket to see them last year but it went down the pan with Covid. Have been seeing bands on a regular basis since the mid 70s until the pandemic. Would have been seeing Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets tonight, resheduled from a year ago.karatestu wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 6:21 pm Most of the music I like is old and the people who made it are either dead, the band is long split or they have just lost the magic. McCartney, Wonder, Elton, Plant can't sing for toffee anymore. I think Roger Daltrey can still bang it out and maybe Mick Jagger.
Anyway, top of my list would have to be Curtis Mayfield. Such a tragedy when a lighting rig fell on him from a great height. A quadriplegic for the rest of his shortened life.

There are three bands I would have really liked to have seen in there prime:-
Bowie, Ziggy era 72/73. Saw Holy Holy with Woody Woodmansy and Tony Visconti in 2019 playing the music from that era.
Led Zeppelin
The Faces. Rod Stewart was a bit special in those days.

I did see the Feelgoods at DeMontfort Hall in Leicester. That was proper: although I ended up having a punch up right in the front row as I recall!
Happy daze.

They were superb when Schenker rejoined in the late 90s. Went to see them again in 2000 but sadly it was not to be. Mogg and Schenker had come to blows on stage the night before and that was it.

Led Zeppelin, Family, Kraftwerk, Free, Coldplay, The Cure, Daft Punk, The Faces, Genesis, King Crimson, Moody Blues, OMD, Rush, Steve Hillage, Wishbone Ash to mention more than a few!
I have been lucky to see some great acts in their prime, but the first four especially on my list are the most regrettable absentees again through a variety of reasons or missed chances!

You can't 'like' that post, there's only one thing to say in that situation - oh bugger!
