What is your general opinion on room correction?
And by that I mean room correction as done by miniDSP, Lyngdorf Room Perfect etc.
What's your opinion on room correction?

Re: What's your opinion on room correction?
It's a filter. I've learnt they are bad. I don't have an opinion on it as I've never tried it.
Never felt the need for it and those that advocate it, I wouldn't ask the time never mind take notice of their opinion on room correction.

Re: What's your opinion on room correction?
It is a very expensive tone control.
If you have Cubes then you will find that a lot of traditional problems are bypassed, anyway.
Experiment with speaker placement, height and toe-in, and consider use of soft furnishings / lined curtains / bookcases / LP storage to absorb deflections in the speaker area while keeping the listening area fairly 'live'.
Ironically, given his ability for monetising, Russ Andrews wrote a very good free pamphlet about how to do the above at no cost - I think it is still available for download.
Even more ironically, the only time I will use the DSP on my RME DAC is when we do shows, when we are there for a couple of days only and we can't control what furnishings etc are available...and only if we can't get the room sounding right without it.
Given the above, I ended up voting - It Depends

Re: What's your opinion on room correction?
When my brother had his roon/music server installed, the guy did a couple of measurements, and using roon correction slightly upped the bass response, can't see any wrong in that. I see the most popular answer is no.4, It depends. My question is how do you know if it's needed without trying it? I have to agree with Savvy, I have never even thought about it with my Cubes, but if I was using something like, let's say Klipsch, I'd definitely want to give it a try.

I'm not in agreement with all of what he's written there, but you can pick out the bits that work for you.

I find there is a sweet spot for bass from the Klipsch but, counter-intuitively, it is not near the wall - the bass actually disappears there. They also like a decent amount of toe-in. I have thick underlay, wool carpet, rug, bookcase, vinyl storage, leather chairs.

Re: What's your opinion on room correction?
Have gone for it depends and agree that Cubes eliminate a lot of the problems. No need to splash out on rip off sound correction problems, but likely effects on SQ of furniture, rugs, curtains etc need to be taken into account before purchase. That reminds me, we are still waiting for the sofa we bought from Dsf in the January sales. They said it could take up to ten weeks and we are in lockdown. My Qutest DAC has four filter settings and I prefer incisive neutral HF roll off to incisive neutral, suggesting the room is slightly on the lively side. The two warmer settings are no nos.

Re: What's your opinion on room correction?
Not room correction as such, but I do use DSP on the bass driver of the Bastanis. It’s required due to the lack of baffle in order to get an even bass response.
In general I’d agree with “It depends”, but I find it can be very useful with in room bass anomalies.
