Re: It's time for EVERYONE to compromise...
There is an irony in voting for brexit in this area, the dearne Valley. This is that after it was completely decimated in the 80s, mining industry, steel industry, manufacturing industry, engineering, the bloody lot,
15 years after fact, and 15 years of literally no jobs at all in the area because there was nothing to fill the void left by the loss of these industries, the regeneration of the dearne Valley was not paid for by Whitehall. It was paid for by the EU. All of it. In the mid 90s this area was deemed one of the most deprived area in the whole of europe. The government of the time didn't put any money whatsoever into the area.
Right at the start of the regeneration I used to see a huge green sign on the way to work every day proclaiming that the regeneration was funded by the EU. At that time there were 2 buildings on the entire site which spanned between Mexborough, Swinton, Wath, Bolton, all the way to grimethorpe and darfield. A huge derelict site encompassing the remains of a dozen pits and the ex largest marshalling yard in europe.
All the people who have a job based on the site may not realise that the only reason they have a job in the first place is that the EU paid for the infrastructure and cleanup of a huge toxic industrial wasteland. They invested billions in the area. And provided the starting point for tens of thousands of jobs.
Nice way to thank them

Same in parts of Wales. The poison spouted by the Sun, Mail and Express is being swallowed by eeediots who are biting off the hand that feeds them. A survey has shown that a typical brexit voter is an uneducated working class male.Vinyl-ant wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2019 12:49 pm There is an irony in voting for brexit in this area, the dearne Valley. Yes, the uneducated working class males that voted for this shower of shite, have no future, no prospects, and no chance of breaking out of the situations they find themselves in. Why? because a lot of them come from workless backgrounds that go right back to Thatcher’s decimation of the industries that once provided a decent job, good pay, a chance to raise a family, and a sense of belonging. They failed at school because they saw no value in education. Why bother to learn when you are only going to end up picking and packing at ATOS or similar, on a zero hours contract and will never be able to buy a home.
The same probably applies in parts of Wales and the North East.
The Brexit vote in these areas was one big middle finger up to the elites, who they see as being wholly responsible for the poverty, deprivation and hardship they are having to put up with. Trouble is when you get extreme levels of deprivation and hopelessness, the victims of this turn to the far right rather than move leftwards. It always happens, it never ends well, and there are plenty of charlatans like Farage, Johnson, Yaxley-Lennon et al giving out simple messages, pretending to be their friends, and all to further their nasty little ambitions.
I can understand working class uneducated males voting for Brexit, given what I have seen at the chalkface and given what they and their families have had to endure at the hands of McVey, Duncan Smith et al, since 2010. What I can’t understand however is why the rest of the Brexit faction have voted to pay £30 for a tomato and to take away other people’s rights as European citizens. Self, self, self again, with no thought as to the consequences of their actions as long as they were alright Jack.
A selfish, entitled section of the most pampered generation in history have pulled up the drawbridge and screwed over the rest of us.

Re: It's time for EVERYONE to compromise...
It is my experience that the vast majority of those who I know support Brexit are far from the stereotypical image of unemployed working class male thickos.
Probably 50% are female.
Admittedly the average age is above 50.

I try not to believe everything I read, personal experience is a better indicator.
But, to be fair, I don't live in a "deprived" area.

Evidence. That's what makes for the truth.
Unfortunately we have a preponderance of assertions.

Re: It's time for EVERYONE to compromise...
How does Mr (or Mrs) average determine which (so called) "evidence" is factual and totally unbiased ?
