how about this for a tonearm!
A new addition for the pioneer plc-590 arrived from japan today, purchased from ebay seller realdeal*japan.
It arrived safely with no problems.
So i now have the tonearm that was designed to be the top option for my turntable when new, the pioneer PA-5000. very very rare
All i can say is its bloody huge! i thought the zeta was big but this thing is much bigger,it looks expertly machined and weighs a ton.
effective length is 250mm with a mounting distance of 236,it also has vta on the fly which is a nice touch.
close up of the arm showing the quality of the engineering.
to get a sense of scale, look how it compares to my dear old alphason :stalks:

What a lovely piece of engineering both arms are. I'm looking forward to reading which you prefer.

Make that 2 cheeks, (ducks for cover).
Very nice Jamie, can't get away with the size of that compared to the legendary Alphason.
Frank...made me do it.

Beast! (and beautiful).
I take it the turntable doesn't have a lid then?

Re: how about this for a tonearm!
Pioneer never made a tone arm in their lives, they are all subcontracted out to Japan inc. It is normal process in Japanese industry, specialist sub contractors. It would have been designed ( more chosen ) from an available kit of parts. I have seen quite a few parts from that arm that are on other Japanese arms.
Now if anyone thinks I am dissing Jap product or even them, no way, the way they do it is the best way and if we had done it the same and had a UK hi-fi inc instead of where we are, we would be in a much stronger position re product - but we worship lies and bullshit. Japan worships money and turnover, and supplies highly visual but crap stuff, and prestige stuff to create "face" amoungst other Japanese companies, that is the stuff to buy, very little equals it let alone betters it. It is expensive now as we are finally cottoning on to the truth that has been out there for decades, but we have been too stupid to see it.
This arm is obviously part of the latter.
