Hugh Cornwell Solo Gig. One track per album from Ratticus to the unreleased next album. Not seen him for 10 years or so. He appears to have gotten chattier.

Re: Last Live Listen
Hot on the heels of a triumphant Walter Trout last Friday, I'm off to see Aynsley Lister tomorrow night at Manchester's Acadamy 3. Always a good show with Aynsley, should be good.

Re: Last Live Listen
Just back from Serious Sam Barrett with the Leeds City Stompers.
I now know why Sam Barrett is Serious Sam - nice bloke though and I love his songs.
Leeds City Stompers were great fun fun fun planing a rang of styles of music to something that I hadn't heard for years. This

Re: Last Live Listen
I went to The Ritz in Manchester last Saturday night to watch The Wilko Johnson Band, ably backed by Joanne Shaw Taylor.
It's when you see Wilko live and hear his attempts at singing, that you appreciate what a great front man Lee Brilleaux was in The Feelgoods. I was actually quite disappointed in Wilko's set, I found it quite boring and samey. It didn't help that The Ritz seemed to be far too crowded and over capacity, it was quite an unpleasant experience (... or that might just be testement that at the age of 60 I'm past it! ).
Joanne Shaw Taylor as usual was magnificent, and I much preferred her set to Wilko's.

Re: Last Live Listen
Tosca - Bradford Alhambra
The nearest I've ever been to live opera was drinking at the Marquess of Anglesey - a youngs pub opposite the Royal Opera House as a student it was great because there was a rush for beer at the interval which usually left barely touched pints around the bar - seemed a pity to leave them.
I've never listened to Tosca, so I genned up on the plot beforehand.
Anyway, off I went to Bradford. The train turned out to be a Grand Central jobby, so I road the 'James Herriot' from Halifax to Bradford. On the route through the lobby to the auditorium, signs on the wall warned 'This performance contains NAKED FLAMES and OCCASIONAL GUNSHOTS' which further enhanced the expectation (yes I knew Mario gets shot - that was in the Quantum of Solace).
I say I've never heard Tosca, but quite a bit of the early incidental music seemed familiar from Fred Quimby Era Tom and Jerry cartoons.
For me, the baritone singing Mario was the singing star of the show. The Bass singing Scarpia was nicely louche and got booed when he came to take his bow at the end, so clearly had done a good job. The mad scene left me wanting something more, but then I have nothing to compare it with.
All in all something I think I could get used to.
Here's an introduction to opera
