Re: NVA power amplifiers

Can I ask a silly question? Have you considered a balance input version? I know it would be difficult with a passive pre-amp but my Quad 99 has a balance output (Quadlink) and a balanced input needs less sensitivity, in theory at least. Search the forum for balance input, I think you'll find an ans...

Re: To XLR or not to XLR?

If you take a balanced (XLR) output and short pin 2 to ground, which is what you do when you make an XLR to RCA cable you negate all the benefits of the balanced output.

Re: What a fun forum

It wasn't just a job but I got fed up with the politics of it in the end, all about money.

Re: Mains Power Quality

Given that all our UK generators are effectively in parallel, it is difficult to see how one area can have markedly better power than another. The UK mains power voltage isn't as regulated as it should be which causes many of the main problems with domestic appliances but HiFi and other audio equipm...

Re: What a fun forum

1/4 tape is the most musical and accurate of all the available mediums (unless 2 track 1/2 inch  ), it is just such a PITA to use, otherwise I would have one. TEAC decks are a little controversial in that the tape head design is in some ways like a TT cart design, physically they influence...

Re: NVA power amplifiers

I know this is pointless to the OP but, why wouldn't you leave an amplifier switched on? The quiescent current will be minimal and the heat from the transformer insignificant. I have left aircraft, large ones at that, continuously powered for days at a time so an amplifier shouldn't be a problem. My...

Re: NVA Speaker Cable twisting

With the greatest respect, the only reason to twist an analogue cable would be to negate the effects of the magnetic field i.e. when running the feeder from a loop driver to an inductive loop. The installation instructions specifically state to do this by the way. Twisted cables take up more space t...
