Re: Battleships

I've soft spot for Richer's as I got my first system from the one in Church street. Liverpool back in 1988. That was back when it was a pile it high and sell it cheap outlet for all the bin-end stuff from Japan. It was an Aladin's cave back then. My understanding, and I may be wrong, is that dealers...

Re: Akai SW175 speakers: Anyone know them?

Indeed - although I was ploughing my own furrow with loudspeakers way before I discovered there was such a thing as hi-fi forums which wasn't until 2009. The great thing about the forums is you get to try so much kit much more easily and without a dealer or eBay taking a percentage of the used price...

Re: Akai SW175 speakers: Anyone know them?

Made a couple of posts but they seem to have been lost in the ether... These are quite astonishingly good loudspeakers with electrostatic - like mids and a relaxed presentation that makes them very moreish to listen to. Probably because they lack distortion in the bass which is the whole point of us...

One hell of a long road trip there and back with a stop off at the Angel of the North and some Sunday lunch. Had a quick listen last night with them plonked on the floor. First thoughts very ev...

Re: Macca's HiFi Show

Obviously I am commercial, but that wouldn't be my motive. I have these active (well powered would be the right term) Cubix Pro going together over the next couple of months, and they are far too big and heavy to Beta test so for me it would be perfect for getting lots of opinions. I wouldn't bring...

Re: Macca's HiFi Show

Thanks Richard I don't want to tread on the toes of the AoS show as that now seems to be happening again but perhaps it could be organised more as a large bake off; just booking one of the big rooms on the ground floor. I've been to a few work functions there so I know they have suitable rooms that ...

Here is my wonderful cat Mister Pud. Sadly no longer with us on this earthly plane but there is not a day goes by I do not miss him. At night he would sleep on the bed next to me like a dog:

Re: Monitor Audio Silver RX2

Doc You asked me which ones I had heard not which ones I liked... Dynamics are very important to me and I agree the 104 and the calindas fall down in that ares. My point about the calindas eas that for eighty squid usef they are better than most modern speakers I have heard at up to 5 timrs the pric...
