Something to drive the Dynaudio Audience 62's

Unread post by Bettyboo2 »

Hi all,
I have a pair of Dynaudio Audience 62 speakers linked to my NVA system but I am looking to upgrade my AP50 amp to something which will help to open up the speakers. I like the Dynaudioss but aware that they are not being driven to their potential; my enjoyment is derived from clarity and neutrality and I was hoping for advice on either the most appropriate NVA amp to drive the Audience 62's or keep the AP 50 and ditch the speakers.
Any thoughts folks?
Many thanks
Hannah

The Dynaudios drop below 4 ohms impedance in the bass frequencies, which makes them harder to drive. For that reason, I'd recommend an amplifier with twin power supplies. S300 or M300s if you want to go the pre-power route, or INT400 if you want to stick with an integrated.

If you are looking at other speakers to use with your AP50, look for models that have a more benign impedance characteristic. We've had excellent results with Proac, Scansonic, 3 Square Audio, Neat, Monitor Audio, and many more. You want a speaker that does not dip below 4 ohms in the low frequencies. That info may not always be easy to find, so you may have to speak to the manufacturer, or look for independent reviews online that give more detailed info than the manufacturer's basic specs.

Something to drive the Dynaudio 62's?

A pick-up truck to drive them to the dump.

Try speakers that aren't slimline ported low efficiency.

I have had Dynaudio's (Focus line). At that time i tought they where good speakers. But they are not. You always hear the filtering inside them and that nasty plastic woofer. They say they are hard to drive. But a good a build amp like yours is enough. If you put out more power before them they are not gonne "open up" miraculously. I have driven them from a tube amp (kt88) unto a 200 Watt mosfet. Imho you can better buy other speakers like mentioned in this topic.

Ditch the speakers, they are not worth it!
