Dutch Elections

It's Election Day here in The Netherlands with only 26 parties to choose from!

At the moment there are 4 parties in the running to be the largest (including Right-Wing extremist Geert Wilders) with about half the electorate still not sure about who to vote for. Then we have the fun afterwards of seeing them trying to form a workable coalition to run the country - this process can take more than a year.

Fun, fun, fun!

So, just done my civic duty and when you get to the polling station you are confronted by this:

A list of more than 1100 names of which you must choose JUST ONE! Filling in the little circle beside it in red pencil.

Anything else and the form is declared invalid.

Proportional representation - don't you just love it.

Bad news. The PVV from Wilders looks to be in for a landslide victory in the exit polls.

Wilders is a fanatic anti-moslim, anti-immigation and anti-EU idiot.

God help us.

Oh! - Dutch Land, after Swede Land is the country I would have thought least likely to fall for that sort of malarky.

There is a lot of frustration and hidden poverty here. The Dutch government under Rutte has given the impression that everything is wonderful - but it isn't.

However Wilders will need the support of at least 2 other major parties to form a government and that will be an interesting discussion. He has proved himself to be extremely untrustworthy in the past.

It's definitely looking like Geert Wilders I'm afraid. He seems to have been around forever too. In 2009 we refused him entry to the UK. I wonder if that will change now we have a government full of far-right fans and appeasers.

From what I understand he's been charged with incitement several times, caused diplomatic incidents, subscribes to 'great replacement' and anti-vaxxer conspiracies and of course is a climate change denier. He's also said he plans to 'ban mosques'. What a lovely fella.

Centre-Right to Far-right swing in Argentina, and the same in The Netherlands In Poland the far-right party got enough votes to become "King-makers" in any coalition. These are worrying times, especially when you consider what seems to be an increasingly speedy creep to the right of the Conservative Party in the UK.

I have read that he wants to stop dual nationality which could have implications for you. He does seem a nutter.
