Definitive DIY

Unread post by Daniel Quinn »

Image

The picture is just to see if it was as easy as I remember , it is .

I'm currently in the process of building my definitive audio system before I see if there is any work for a 56 year old lawyer with one arm/hand who last practised 7 years ago before his brain blew a fuse

I will document here

Currently all I've done is switch the power supply for the amp boards I'm trying . The amp boards are based on naim 200 I think , eventually I think I will install fm300a amp boards .

I had 6 working fm300a amp boards , but there very (electronically ) fragile and I've broken 5 of them by touching + and - . That's almost £250 for Chinese hifi :angry-screaming:

One hand electronics .

I changed the power supply from 150va to 500va and Id be hard pushed to think of a better upgrade . The soundstage is considerably wider and better and it's far more dynamic with better rhythm .

Docs words of wisdom live on .

First job was lining the cabs with a mixture of acrylic and steel if they were all steel , they would have been to heavy for my one arm/hand.

Next job is some rods to strengthen the cabinets .

Each driver is going to get its own enclosure , so I need to work that out before the strengthen rods go in

It's a ptp 4 ,

Cutting the hole in acrylic with one arm and a router is a pain in the arse , I might see if it economical for it to be laser cut in MK3 .

The motor and the idler is all it uses from a lenco , Thier the best bits . A ptp 4 and few pieces of acrylic and hey presto

Each small driver is having its own chamber in the box.
.
The midrange in the original box was cardboard and damaged . So I used 150mm pipe . Cut to size , given a cardboard end termination , then sprayed with plastidip
