Geoff.R.G wrote: Tue Jan 10, 2023 10:36 am Stu, please excuse my confusion but is the new PSU intended for the LP12 or some other project, I am confused.
Oh sorry Geoff.

It's for the nva phono stage. Disabled the original transformer and rectifier and added this remote one.

It's to see if any of the hum I am getting is due to the original transformer being close to the amplifier board. Has the added benefit of assessing what a remote psu can do for SQ.

Loosely related to the LP12 :shifty:
Makes sense.

Isn't there an external PSU option of the phono stage already?

Mine is the NVA phono1 which has an internal psu and no option to add an external one.

The phono2 comes as a two box affair with external psu (no psu in the same box as the amp boards). There is an option to add a second psu, one for each channel.

When I bought my nva stage back in 2018 I didn't want to stretch to a phono2 as I had enough stuff laying about here to build my own twin psu.

But I got a bit caught up playing about with diy speakers and power amps and so only just had the urge to go back to vinyl. So glad I did. But just more projects left unfinished

Listening to my 2002 £1.99 charity shop find LP of The Police Zenyetta Mondatta right now. I have listened to the CD version a lot over the last few years.

Need to listen more but I can say that the amount of bass produced is similar between the two. So my worries about bass feedback are unfounded I think. The Marvin Gaye LP's must just have a lot of bass on them - I don't have these on CD.

Trying to just play LP's that I have listened to a lot on CD recently.

The PL71 platter mat fits nicely on the LP12

Sacrilege I hear you cry. Well if it fits then why not give it a go ? It's a bit thicker than the Linn felt mat so vta will have changed but I think it was a bit tail high to start with.

Listening now :geek:

For all you know it might sound better than the Linn mat.

Just played Gorillaz Demon Days. Bass sounds a complete mess. I thought my mid bass drivers were going to take off.

Skip time.

Could always bring it here one day if you want to compare it with other stuff stu, might just be that record that the bass is off on if it was reasonable enough on other stuff
