n 1982, cheeky scouse comedian Les Dennis was performing at Harlow Civic Hall in bright Liverpool red loafers.
It later transpired that on that rainy Thursday night none other than David Bowie was present in the audience.
Bowie was so impressed that alongside Nile Rogers penned a classic tribute album with the titular track "Les Dennis"
Sadly EMI America thought U.S audiences wouldn't be familiar with Dennis' brand of regional working man's comedy and made him change the name. In a small act of defiance, for the "Serious Moonlight" tour of '83, Bowie changed his hair and wardrobe to emulate his idol. Some backstage sources even report that he insisted on being called "Les" for the entire tour.
A very Happy Birthday to Dave Grohl, born Dafydd Gareth Llewelyn-Bowen, in Rhewl on this day in 1969; a younger brother to Laurence who was born in 1965.
Whilst his older brother played with wallpaper and fabric Dafydd picked up a guitar. He changed his name when he moved to the States in 1987, Dafydd became Dave and he took his middle initial G and birthplace Rhewl to create a new surname. He is often seen in Talacre where he has a caravan.
