Back on topic.

I have a few releases on the Jack White 'Third Man' label - Loretta Lynn and Margo Price - both are compressed and a bit murky, to my ears.

Some recordings have avoided digital processing as well. Pure anologue.

As I like John Mellencamp I was intrigued by the mention of his new analogue album, turns out its been stalled by C19 and is now scheduled for later this year. Fingers crossed its decent

The day I ask myself , how was this recorded is the day a blow my head off

Sure , perhaps they could sound better , but for instance Duke 1980 recorded s the farm Surrey is 3 blokes creating magic not sat round the table discussing recording techniques .

Each record is a slice of history , I don't care how it was recorded.

And conversely I care passionately how its been recorded, which studio/s it was recorded in, who produced it, mixed it & mastered it, because without that understanding the history is no where near complete. And sorry to be a kill joy but I have no desire to indulge in any form of self harm, in fact I am as happy as happy can be :-)

History of what?

Stuff that ain't important. It's a record , listen to it .

It's analogous to those people who are more interested in how a novel was written than the actual novel.

In your opinion and I am perfectly happy that your opinion differs, it would be boring if we all thought the same ( in my opinion 😉)

My opinion and the truth are inextricably linked 😉

As Nietzsche noted "artists are the manure from which there art grows. "

Although I do believe some people are interested in manure .

I like the idea of being knowledgeable about recordings, but I just bung the record on and listen. With the flitting nature of streaming, half the time I don't even look at what the track is called...

I also dip in and out via Tidal or 6 music but when I find something that's a bit special then I start digging into to the " who, what, where" side of things. There's no right or wrong, how can there be when music is such an emotional and subjective matter ?
