Another excellent, largely unheralded bass player is Graham Maby, Joe Jackson's BP on his first couple of albums - Look Sharp and I'm The Man. Tight as hell, funky as f**k and a tone to die for.

Mark Egan is another player I admire - certainly on the first Pat Metheny Group albums. He was replaced by the quietly understated Steve Rodby.

Yeah, Sting does some awesome bass work. Synchronicity has some corking bass lines on it.

Yep, ghost in the machine is one of my go to albums for testing and comparison purposes, its just a really good album in general.
Sting is pretty underrated in general
