My pal is looking to get back into vinyl and so we’re looking for a deck probably up to £200 to get him back into it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Lenco GL75 - should find a well cared for one for around £150. You can't get more sound per pound and they are generally easy to fix, if needed.

If the upgrade bug strikes, put it in a heavy plinth and put a new arm on it.

It looks like they are commanding bigger prices than that now, £250 looks more like it
There’s a couple of pioneer pl 12d for £150, probably 3 times what they cost new!
Even a budget rega 2 is over £100.
Woe is me!

I have a PL12D in the loft. Unlike the Linn or Thorens turntables the chassis is sits on top of the springs so it would be very easy to make it rigid.

If your friend or if you know anyone who is a bit handy then this is a very good turntable in need of TLC . Pair this with a a second hand Rega arm or similar and you will have a very capable t/t that will see off lots of very expensive units .

All realy depends on if you can do the work on making it look better yourself . Another option again if you have the skill is to build a new plinth and use the rest of the things to get yourself a nice looking unit with good platter bearings , suspension and armboard.

Not as good in sound quality but in my view better than a Rega 3 is this one . This is a more finished unit and would be plug and play and sound very decent . The one above has more scope for sounding very good but only if the work is done on it to a good standard. You pays your money and you take your chance .

The Pro-Ject Debut is a more recent TT and similar to a Rega Planar in basic design.

Decent decks and should be easy to find 2nd hand.

Thanks v much.
Funnily enough I had a systemdek after a sansui 222, and actually gave it to another friend , must be 20years ago.
Maybe I should ask for it back?
