Re: Coronavirus restrictions: are they legal
Lindsay is correct.
Saying 'fuck off' to an argument is not ad hominem because it is a rejection of the content, i.e it is playing the ball rather than the man.
Poor little love...can only be aimed at the man, rather than the content.
I let it go, at the time, because it was relatively minor in the context of a robust debate, and went no further.

"Fuck off it is" was what I'd say to you face to face in real life if you said to me "More barrack room bullshit."CycleCoach wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:12 pmI disagree that it's ad hominem. Certainly wasn't intended as such. Telling someone to fuck off isn't very polite either but I've moved on. I'm interested in Hifi.Lindsayt wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 8:59 pmYour "Poor little love" comment is ad hominem and is against the rules of this forum.CycleCoach wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 3:14 pm
Quality reply
I'll light a candle tonight for the big bad coppers who are trampling on your rights. Poor little love.
It is also personally insulting.
You are quite welcome to put together a cogent argument as to why you think that what I was saying earlier in this thread was "More barrack room bullshit". In which case you might get a longer response from me than "Fuck off it is."

It's that you think that your previous post was "Factual."CN211276 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 11:23 pmFactual.Lindsayt wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 8:49 pmCN211276 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 5:04 pm This thread is pathetic and nit picking in the extreme. Because your previous post was
You could say that this entire forum is "pathetic and nit picking in the extreme." Because during non-covid times, millions of people per year die prematurely from heart disease, cancer, accidents, lung disease, strokes. And yet here we are discussing hi-fi instead of combating these leading causes of premature death.
Just because something bad is happening in the world, that doesn't mean to say that we should all focus on what is considered to be the baddest things, and not pay attention to anything else.

Re: Coronavirus restrictions: are they legal
Bearing in mind that the title of the thread is "Coronavirus restrictions: are they legal" a large proportion of it would seem to be to me, and as much fun as accusing people of being "barrack-room lawyers," and telling people to "fuck off," is, perhaps we might get back to the thread title?
If you wish to explore the other avenues, maybe start a new thread? For instance, a lot of the posts relate to ethical or moral matters, rather than legal.

Re: Coronavirus restrictions: are they legal
Indeed one post may well lead to an rebuff.
Whilst threads do tend to meander and go with there being no great harm in them going , there's nothing wrong in responding to an post by pointing out that it's .
Just because there's a highly contageous illness going about, does that give the Government, and employees employed by the Government the legal right to trample over previously held legal rights?
Should the Government's role be one of advice in such a situation, or should it be one of trampling all over previously held legal rights?
If the justifcation for the behaviour of the Government and Government lackeys is that it's to save lives, surely there's far more justification for trampling over previously held rights in order to reduce deaths from heart disease, cancer and strokes, because these conditions have killed more people than Covid over the last 18 months.
If the justification is that heart disease, cancer and strokes have a large self-abuse / poor lifestyle element to them, which Covid doesn't. And that people should be allowed to have unhealthy lifestyles if they want, then what about the laws on drugs? Surely all drugs should be fully legalised?

Re: Coronavirus restrictions: are they legal
Yes and if the buffoon of a PM had locked down sooner on two occassions tens of thousands of lives would have been saved. When it all comes out in the wash after the Public Inquiry I suspect and hope he is charged with mass manslaughter.

Re: Coronavirus restrictions: are they legal
Just watched an interesting video from Ivor Cummins interviewing the author of a book called "State of Fear". UK Column have mentioned the Government departments mentioned in the book many times and the tactics they've used.
