Or would you want 10 Gbps?

Would you want the option to take SFP adaptors, so that you could try a fibre connection?

Would you be open to having an HP switch intead of a Cisco?
Having looked for the 8 port fanless Cisco switches, I've only found two on the bay of E for £70/75 each (I'll need two, one upstairs, one down).

However I'm amenable to HP equipment so what would your suggestion be for an equivalent Gigabit switch from HP ... I was looking at a HP ProCurve Switch 1400-8G J9077A 8 Port but they have no PSU supplied

Cisco switches on eBay seem to be more expensive now. The first Cisco I bought was placed near the router and the improvement was slight. It was only when I added a second Cisco nearer the streamer that the improvement was a lot more significant. It also provides the optical connection to the OpticalRendu, saving the considerable expense of a module.

You can get HP Procurve 1400 8G's from ebay with a power supply for £25.

That model seems to be bottom of the rangeish for its' time.
I personally prefer my switches to have console ports and a full CLI. The sort of switch that retailed at £700 to £2000+ when new.
I'm struggling to find any 8 port fanless gigabit enterprise type HP switches on UK ebay at the moment.

An OKish option would be for you to offer £60 per switch on this listing:

I have no idea as to whether the more expensive when new Cisco 3560G would result in better sound in your system than the HP 1400. It's £50 for the pair vs £120 to £130.

Offer made for £60 each so lets see what happens. Then I'll have to have a word with out Network team and see if they can provide me with the config cable :D ... They should be able to as we run exclusively Cisco Switches.

Ask them to put a basic config on them instead. Should take them a few minutes during their lunch break. Nominate which ports will be used as trunking ports (connection to the other switch or router) and which to end devices (PC's printers servers).

I have a lovely little Netgear switch spare. It has a SMPS, but you could easily add a little LPSU from Tomanek or SBooster for a greater SQ improvement.

PM me your address, you can have it for postage.
