Any love for electrostatic headphones?

Unread post by Ithilstone »

Some moons ago I applied and was accepted to take a part in review tour of Hifiman Jade 2 system
Those arrived today. If anyone is interested I published my initial thoughts on Jade 2 on head-fi but the thread itself has a lot of info about those as well if any one fancy a long read ;]

I have got a pair of old Audio Technica electrostatic cans, they don't get enough use but I remember them as being very neutral if a tad bass shy
Airlink BPS 3110S with LDA DC filter, Rega Planar 8 with Apheta 3, LDA MCJ3 phono, NVA P90 SA MK2, NVA A70 X 2, Cambridge Audio CXC, Denafrips Ares2 DAC, Meridian 204 FM tuner, Audio Technica ATH 70 cans, NVA Cubix & LS6 & Oppo 2 cans and Activo CT10 with Tidal on the move

I also had a set of Audio Technica ATH-7 electrostatics. Sound was very clear and I wore them to destruction.
Great headphones.

Hifiman stats?
Ah well, it shows how much I know [not a lot].
I thought Hifiman only made planar magnetics, a breed I have always found to be not to my taste.

I've had a few lower end Stax 'stats and enjoyed their rather undynamic transparency.
I currently have a pair of vintage Stax SR3 / SRD5 but I don't use them that much, and I have fitted very non-standard earpads, and when I do use them it's with a moderate amount of bass boost. Which gives them a bit of needed heft.

Here's a stock pic ...
Image

My main headphones, which I use daily, are PSB M4U1, which are ordinary dynamic type, but very good.
