I think some of this language could verge on the illegal. Maybe with proposed new internet laws this could be the case. Surely some of the statements I read are ad hom. Not directed at an individual but a group of people. Some recent threads and posts show a disrespect for the dead which sits uneasy with me. If we are taking the piss of Marco and AOS perhaps this sort of posting could be reigned in a bit. Odd swear word is OK I guess but continually winding people up by calling them cocksuckers etc etc is going a bit far. There is a limit to this 'humour', if this is how it is intended, where it just becomes tedious or even offensive.

I don't find the words as such a problem, they are just words, I do worry about someones motivation for using them, but I generally just exclude myself from reading or taking part in those threads, I don't think I am missing out on anything of value.

I would say some at least of those terms could be deemed 'hate speech' if someone made a complaint. They are on a public forum after all.

I am with Savvy on this. My wife is black and I find some of what he has highlighted offensive (I rarely read Missy's posts). However we need to be careful about cencership where it does no concern race. Audiofool for example must remain and anything should be permitted with regard to Marco and well known trolls.

I am a big boy and coming from Glasgow colourful language is mostly the norm to me. What is not acceptable to me is racism or derogatory terms to describe someones sexual prefrence or indeed people with Down's syndrome. To me this has no place in a HiFi or music forum. With regard to the recent Tom Petty comments well that says it all really. A juvenile desperate attempt to shock at the expense of the dead.

Whether we like it or not, feel it's censorship or not some of those word, for example the N-Word have nothing but negative connotations. I accept there are some people that can use it safely within their own groups, I am not able to do that and nor are most people I would guess. Shout that word at a football match and see what happens but you can call the ref a C*** all day long.... That is just a clear and simple fact and I, personally, don't want to see it on a HiFi forum.
