Does anybody have any experience of planar headphones?
There is the cheap Foster, which will give a taste, or the Monolith 1060 which look interesting.

Anybody tried the Shure 1540?
Allesandro are cheaper to buy in UK and they are effectively Grado.
Also much more comfortable with sennheiser yellow pads.

I have some planars - more than I care to count actually but mostly hifimans one Mobius and Verum 1 on the way
Don't know what you mean by cheap but Sundara at 349 USD is very good for the price Verum 1 might be really good but cannot tell till I receive mine

Ithi is a serious headphone buff and at the Wigwam show he will have a room with a nva starter system, but also a headphone comparison stage with his collection of top of the draw headphones played through his Jammy Special AP10h and a standard AP10h for comparison.

Well President Macron is giving me €300 next month, so I thought I would add to this, so I am looking at about €600mtops.
I was tempted by the Monolith H1060 or the HE560, but I am more than happy to listen to someone with experience in these things.

What amp will you be using it with?
No experience with 1060 except one short session during show
I liked he560 a lot till I heard he6... ;]
but i would rather take Sundara than he560 those days
both need serous amp (not portable toy)
Sundara is more linear and when HE560 is warmer
both will give you serous bass when paired with serious amp

Where are you based ? Your flag is GB but you talk about President Macron and Euros - so not sure if you can pop in for a session in London

What headphones do you use if any?
I currently have some Sennheiser HD650 and some HD540 Référence II.

If I am honest, I find them a bit polite and clinical. Can anybody recommend something a bit more musical, more dynamic sounding?

kev
if you think sennheisers are polite and clinical try taking out the foam discs they really open up then
you must have a decent amp to make them sing
sennheiser outlet have the 630 vb reduced from £430 to £160 at the moment refurbished but i have had several pairs from them and they have all been brand new
just pressed the button myself
.

I am using a Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear amp.
I shall investigate the pad removal.

The Sundara are available for €349. Sounds like a bargain for a neutral headphone.
How good are the Fostex TH500rp? They are another headphone which I can get locally.

Is 140mW enough to drive them?
