My P50sa produces little or no sound at the first 4 or 5 volume settings. I only get decent listening levels from about 1 or 2 oclock on the dial. I run A80 monoblocks and Cube 2's with LS6 cable and a combination of SSC and SSP interconnects. My sources are vinyl and cd.
Is this normal?

Yes, as you need the close volume adjustment at the low level end. It is based on a logarithmic law not a linear law.
