Managed to find somewhere in Covid safer Wales now it is not peak season, our first holiday in nearly two years. Nice to get away. The weather was better than it was last month. Stayed in our regular haunt of Tenby and visited nearby places. The coastal scenery is spectacular. Covid restrictions were above and beyond what is mandatory in Wales with what amounted to a night time curfew in Tenby.

Went for a short break in Somerset staying in Minehead. Very close as the crow flies but somewhere I had not visited for decades. Got the idea from a TV series I saw on Wordsworth and Coleridge, the later providing the inspiration for classics from two of my favourite bands. Visited a couple of his haunts and also the Cheddar Gorge which is very spectacular. With all the Covid red tape we are put off going abroad.

Spent the last week in Llangollen, North Wales. Chose here because the accommodation was a lodge with fishing lakes for my son. In the middle of nowhere and didn't see many people (a bonus).

On the whole the weather was atrocious but the surroundings and fishing very relaxing. The stupid 20 mph zones take some getting used to.

Llangollen is a nice little place. Wrexham on the other hand is best avoided

Looks idyllic Stu. I could fancy spending a week there - even in the rain!

Nice pictures. Wales is a great place for a holiday if the weather is good. We wait for a good forecast and go at short notice. Went to St Davids during last September's heat wave. Consider yourself lucky you don't have to live with the 20mph speed limit. Like many I will no longer vote Labour in Welsh elections. Sheer lunacy.

Yes, it was beautiful in the Berwyn mountain range. It didn't rain constantly but every day was wet at some point. We all felt very relaxed until hitting the motorway around Chester on the way home. How anybody drives for a living in this country is beyond me.

I agree, Wales is a lovely place for a holiday when the weather is kind. I've lost count how many times I've been to North Wales.

The 20 mph limit must be raking in some fine money I should think. I agree with them near schools but they are far too widespread. It doesn't actually feel like you are moving at that speed. Must be costing business some money in lost time. A guy in a fishing tackle shop said to me "Wales has a new flag now you know. Its a snail".

Pleased you enjoyed your hols away from everywhere, not exactly my cup of tea but we're all different.

We have 20mph zones near schools which is fine, but surely out of school hours and weekends that should then revert back to 30mph.

Hello Dave,

On a holiday I crave remoteness and seclusion rather than busy . Its just a part of the way I am and always have been. A city break is my idea of hell but I get dragged on them occasionally. I'm getting worse as I get older as well

City. Breaks aren't for me either. The less folk I see on holiday the better.

Give me some wooded mountains and a secluded lake anytime.

(I am an unashamed, antisocial old git)
