Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
I added the speaker connection to the base of my cubes- this helps with the inflexible Nva cable especially close to walls and also lets it hang behind the support almost hidden- if yours are floor based then all connections in at the base and cables run along the floor???

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
Good idea.
Another idea was to have thick underlay fitted when i get a new carpet later on this year. Cut channels out of the underlay and there will be no bumps.
I just need to remember not to run the send and returns right next to each other. That will increase capacitance and risk a thunder bolt from you know who.

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
Yeap LS5 and 6 ( also TSCS) are very inflexible - but it would not be a problem to fit Z plug at 90 deg ( or 45 ) - I was actually discussing it with Doc - he said no one ever requested it - but it is very simple with newly build cables - and a bit tricky with existing cables ( also would mean losing an inch each side for re-termination)Latteman wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 7:50 pm I added the speaker connection to the base of my cubes- this helps with the inflexible Nva cable especially close to walls and also lets it hang behind the support almost hidden- if yours are floor based then all connections in at the base and cables run along the floor???

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
Also very easily done ;] a bit more pricey though
and silver faraday cage is actually added on top of regular black sleeving on TSCS so no need to remove it from LS6 just add another layer on top.
not sure it it will let cables blend in thought - I always thought TSCS being on a blingy side

The latest bits of old ikea furniture that are going to be distressed in to making some prototype speakers (Big bastard cube alikes).
They had been stored leaning against a wall and so are a bit banana shaped I will leave them on the floor with some weight on top for a week or two before commencing. These bits of chipboard are over two metres long so i can get two panels out of each piece. I have one more piece but i didn't photo it as i need to remove the bird shit first

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
I was thinking yesterday (dangerous) why the 3 way semi omni design using the original Marantz cabs didn't work (yeah remember those ?). The small cabs on their own with just up firing 5" and front firing tweeter worked straight off. The cab volume is a little more than what they need so they are over damped.
The Marantz cabs however with single forward firing 12 " was another matter. The bass was overblown on bass heavy music like Portishead, jamiroquai and Morcheeba. I thought it was the box volume being too low. But i think i was wrong. Doc successfully used a 15" cube for his BBC(ubes) which i am guessing from the context of the previous posts was the outside measurements. Take the acrylic thickness out of the equation and you are left with a cabinet volume of just under 40 Litres.
The Marantz cabs were about 43 Litres from memory. So my conclusion is that it was the box shape which fooked things up. The Marantz are tall and not so deep like many speakers of the early 70's era. If my thinking is correct then the idea of using cubes does everything that the Doc said it did But then my little cabs with up firing mid are not cubes either.
Flawed logic ?
