Access All Areas

Recently I have got hold of several of these live album packages - combined CD/DVD of made-for-TV concerts recordings in the early 90's; Central Television's 'Bedrock' series. Most of the artists are 70's acts reliving old glories and running through some of their greatest hits in front of appreciative crowds.

The CD's have been nicely remastered and the DVD's visuals are good and sharp. Also - these sets are budget-priced !

Artists include Lindisfarne, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, Asia, OMD, Buzzcocks, Gong.

Youtube full concert video

Steve is here seen touring for his terrific 'comeback' album 'Guitar Noir' and flaunting a new backing band who power through a selection of material from his Charisma years albums. A powerful show and proving that he was no mere sideman anymore but a genuine musical force.

I've just done a search at Amazon for "Access all areas" and there are some terrific artists and bands covered in that series, and not just your usual suspects either. Sad Cafe anyone, or Hatfield & The North? There are limited edition vinyl releases in the list too, including that Steve Hackett.
Thanks for the tip Fretless.

Caravan: 'Access All Areas'

Caravan - Access All Areas (Full Live Show)

A dream come true - the original Caravan lineup reunited to do an album and a tour. Pye Hastings (vocals/guitar), Richard Sinclair (bass/vocals), Dave Sinclair (keyboards), Richard Coughlan (drums) and Jimmy Hastings (sax). They look happy and relaxed and get down to some serious grooving through such classics as 'In the Land of Grey and Pink' and the mammoth 'Nine Feet Underground'. Wonderful !

Caravan completists might already have this concert as the first disc of the 'Grey Pink & Gold' collection, but here the audio has been remastered/cleaned up and the running order is correctly printed on the cover !

Hatfield & The North - Access All Areas (Full Live Show)

Hey wasn't he just on? It's Richard Sinclair back with his 'other' band wearing the same cloth cap but this time he forgot to get out of the overalls he wore in his day job as a carpenter / kitchen fitter.

There is, sadly, far too little left of the quirky and humorous legacy of Hatfield & the North. Their two subtle, complex and jazz-tinged albums remain as a high-water mark in the Canterbury Scene and this live album is a welcome addition.

Here we have Richard Sinclair as front-man, with Phil Miller on guitar, Pip Pyle on drums and wackiness and Pip's french girlfriend is running the keyboards (and quite a good job she does too!).

"We're going to play some new songs cos, well, you know the old ones." says Pip at one point and the set is a pleasant mix of old and new. Sinclair's bass-work and voice are simply superb and this whole concert is a feast of enjoyment for those familiar with the band.
