That Fane looks like a nice driver and you can pick them up 2nd hand.
However they are more suited to ported enclosures than infinite baffles, according to the info supplied by Fane.
Could I find something better for my sealed box tastes for similar money?

Yes they have other ones for sealed boxes, read the website. To be honest it will make no difference, all the drivers have stiff surrounds, you can't have soft surrounds with 15 or 18 inch drivers so just treat it as marketing bollocks.

Our Denon 1800BD blu ray player went BER (beyond Economical Repair) this week.
When trying to play a blu ray, there was a burnt electrical smell and the solenoid is just clicking without it powering on properly.

Shoddy junk. It only lasted 11 years and I paid about £100 for it.

We're now using my son's Xbox One as the blu ray player. For which it seems to be doing an OK job.
We set the sound settings on the Xbox to bitstream to allow the Atmos receiver to do the sound processing.

Been using a ps3 for a while now for cd & Blue ray- not too shabby imho
Apparently they can be ‘jail broke’ and streaming app or software installed

Got fed up with using the x-box for blu rays and DVD's so I bought a used 4k blu ray player off avforums classified section for £100.
The settings on the x-box seemed to spontaneously change too often for me to carry on using it.

The player works fine, but has mildly annoying non-tactile power and and eject buttons. Annoying to find and operate in the dark.
The 4k is a bit of a waste with my 1920 FHD resolution projector. A 4k projector would be nice, but I sit about 15 feet from the screen and I'm in no hurry to splash out £1000+ for a used 4k projector...

One of my Linn Saras has stopped working properly. Voicecoil rub on one, or possibly both woofers. I've bought replacement used woofers and discovered that my Weller 50 watt TCP iron with a fine tip isn't man enough to desolder the terminals on the woofer. So I've invested £24 in a 100 watt iron from Antex.

Lindsayt wrote: Sat Oct 29, 2016 1:40 am I bought a Marantz SR6010 for £480.
I've initially set it up as a 7.0 system. Using EV Sentrys as fronts, a Linn Isobarik as the centre speaker, Saras as rears and Heybrook HB1's as sides.

After watching an Our Brand is Crisis DVD on it my children declared that it was a waste of money.

We'll be trying it out with some different films and speaker configurations over the next few weeks...
My Marantz SR6010 has started switching itself off at semi random times when it's in use. When it does this the power LED flashes red. Pressing the power button will stop the flashing. Pressing it again will turn the receiver back on.
When the system has not been used for a day or two it will stay on for about 40 minutes. Then after that it will power itself off with a shorter and shorter interval, as I try to watch through to the end of Match of the Day or a film.

My guess is the power supply is kaput.

Seems to be the nature of modern electronics. Won't last as long as 10 years. Throw-away society and all that.

So I'm on the look-out for a replacement AV receiver.
Thinking of getting something like a used Denon 3500H or 3600H...

Funnily enough, I was looking at Denon units today, specifically the AVR-X3400H and the AVR-X2700H, but I've just forked out for a new telly (and a new phone) so I don't think I'll be buying one just yet.

Bought a used Denon 3500H off Facebook Marketplace for £320.

Initial thoughts are that it sounds tonally leaner than the Marantz - and OK overall. Maybe I need to fiddle with the default, post auto-setup EQ settings?

I'll see how I get on when I get my next couple of rental blu rays later this week...

It'd be nice if this receiver keeps working for another 10 years...

That was a decent price. I'll be interested in your comments once you've beaten it into submission.
