I'd like to hear ...

There is a free, online file sharing system called WeTransfer that I use to send FLAC copies of albums to friends, a bit like the swapping of cassette tapes that used to happen in the good, old days.

It's simple - sign up for an account and you can send up to 2Gb of data (an average album is about 300Mb FLAC file). All you need is someone's email address and they receive a mail, with a link where they can download the file.

The membership of HFS has, I suspect, a large number of albums of all genres already digitally stored on hard-disks. And passing a copy on takes about 2 minutes of your time.

So, if anyone wants to hear a specific album they can post a request here and someone who has that can say so, then ask for an email address via PM and get it to them.

To support the artists who create all these wonderful sounds, I hope that if someone really enjoys an album they will be prompted to buy a copy for themselves.

Anyway, check out http://www.wetransfer.com for more info and sign-up.

As far as I know the files are only stored until the named recipient has 'collected' it. Unlike the Rapidshare, Megaupload systems where anyone could download copies.

This is a direct, person-to-person service with no intention of purchase or profit.

The copyright issues are important as I wonder if HFS could be held accountable if members are actively infringing the legalities under the banner of a 'club membership'.

It would be sensible to work out if there are problems here before anyone asks or offers copied music to others (on a purely non-profit basis).

Sounds illegal. Copy for own use only and I think in theory that is on ice in the UK?

Pity, would have been nice to try.

Sadly, I'm pretty certain that this is illegal and would probably leave HFS open to prosecution if we were seen to be 'running' it as a service for members.
