Setting off down the NVA road
Hello all,
I am looking to set off down the NVA road and after I have repalced all my interconnects with SSC will then look to replace my Rega Mira/Maia (clamshell) bi-amp sett up with pre-amp and amplifiers as we go through the coming year.
However, I will need to get a pre-amp that has remote control functions due to use in the house by my wife et-al.
Initially I will only have up to £200 to spend to try and find a preamp (secondhand!), with the above mentioned remote function and at least 2 sets of outputs so that I can bi-amp when ready.
Can anyone give some suggrestions top consider or do I need to wait until I can save up more funds for something more expensive?
Many thanks and season's greetings
Martin

Re: Setting off down the NVA road
No NVA pre-amp has remote control. The Doc has addressed this one before and it will be in the archives.
You don't need to save up, so long as you want to 'add' more NVA - you will get what you paid back.
The P20 doesn't look to have enough inputs for you, so you are looking at the P50 as a 'starter' NVA pre-amp.
I don't know the Rega stuff so can't advise which way to go around there. I'm sure someone will.

Re: Setting off down the NVA road
There are passive preamps with remotes, but there will be a musical compromise if it is an electronic circuit doing the attenuation. If it is a motorised switch there will be less compromise. They tend to come out quite expensive though.

Re: Setting off down the NVA road
Thanks Doc and Terry
I would like to use an NVA Passive pre-amp, but the TV and streamed music will all go trough it which the whole family uses, therefroe the need for the remote. I realise this will involve compromise, but for now, it will have to be. In the future my intention is to have separate systems for the "home entertainment" and vinyl/CD playback.
So any suggestions re a preamp with remote would be gratefully received!!!
Thanks
Martin

Re: Setting off down the NVA road
Not sure I understand . I have a hifi room ,but I also use it for watching football as I will be tonight when xmas begins by arsenal beating that team funded by slavery .
Can you not use the volume control on the tv or virgin/sky box , which is what I do .
I set my passive volume control to halfway which is usually sufficient for tv , but use the tv remote to increase if/when necessary

Re: Setting off down the NVA road
Streaming sources and a TV could both be run via a Sonos Connect (for example). That will act as the streamer and the TV can be input via the Connect's analogue inputs. The Sonos Connect has the option of a fixed or variable output, I run one through an old NVA setup in the living-room with the NVA pre-amp volume knob set at about 2/3 open and volume control actually being done via the Sonos app on tablet or phone. Not optimal SQ but good enough for this purpose. Hope this helps.

Re: Setting off down the NVA road
Thanks for the above chaps,
I had not realised you could possibly control the volume another way such as the Sky box remote! I use Apple TV for streaming so I will check out the function on these tonight.
Would much rather go the whole NVA hogg as it were!
Many thanks
Martin

Re: Setting off down the NVA road
Does your Rega DAC have a remote with volume control? Could run your sources through that.
