Rega RS5 - Driver problem

Post by brit-pop »

Morning,

Just an ask for some quick advice please. After travelling for work all week I sat down last night and put some tunes on. Immediately noticed a horrible farting type noise from one of the mid-bass units on my RS5. Quickly had the covers off to notice one of the drivers had come away from its surrounds, almost as if there hadn't been enough glue between the paper cone and the rubber surround.

I've had these speakers 11 month and they're still under warranty from the dealer. They have agreed to sort the issue but what's the minimum I should expect from them.

Fix the existing driver? Replace a single driver? Replace them in both speakers for a matching pair? Or give me another pair of speakers. I want to be fair to them but get the best outcome for me.

What do you reckon I should stand for?

Cheers

You would probably need to read the small print of their warranty.
But as a min they should replace the faulty driver.

 Dan should be along soon.

If the drivers are matched then you should at least hold out for a new matching pair, I would be surprised if they offer to replace the speakers completely.

Cheapest solution for them is replace the one driver - but if one has already gone, will the other one perish as well?

You should contact DQ and sue them for £100k for the emotional distress

I don't believe in all this matched driver nonsense, it is normally marketing bullshit. Just replace the driver it was obviously a "Friday afternoon" one.

You should expect them to be made as good as new. Assumming they were in A1 condition.

What that means it's open to debate. You would need to be able to substantiate that gluing the driver would not render it as good as new. Similarly if you want a new driver ,why is it necessary to have two matching drivers.

Regas own literature may assist.

They have replaced the old driver with a new one and did so without any fuss or debate.

I was in a right foul mood when I got there having had to change a flat tyre on the way. They must have taken one look at me, furious and soaking wet and thought let's not give him any s##t.

Anyway, normal service resumed and I'm content. Thanks for your comments and advice.
