Has anyone tried new PI 5 as a streamer? Does it work with Volumio or Hifi berry board's?

I never even considered one. I shut down half of the stuff my Pi 4 can do as it is by using a custom config.txt.

There's a Pi5 compatibility list here, and yes, you can run Volumio on a Pi5.

Thanks Slinger! I've Pi 4 also and it is working well, just thinking would more computing power of Pi 5 make any difference.

Honestly, why would you need it? Maybe if you're loading some powerful plugins, like Logitech Media Server etc. it would help, but for "normal" operations it probably wouldn't. Don't quote me but I think I read somewhere that a Pi4 2GB is the most you'll need to run Volumio quite comfortably.

Of course, if Volumio evolves then it might be a different story, but currently, it'd be a waste of money.

Old & unused Windows PC's can be rigged to run Volumio. Very cheap solution and excellent SQ via USB.

Mind out for HDD and fan noise though.
