This is probably one where Starmer is fine with it. Phillips secures her seat...and she can come back to the front bench once the party is in government.

Why he did not go for a free vote eludes me, it's not as if it was ever going to change anything. Last night was very much in the realms of gesture politics and regrettably he fluffed his lines and shot himself in the tush.

Neither Labour or the Conservatives resemble the parties I grew up around and that cannot be a surprise given the fundamental change in communications brought about by the web, social media, smart phones etc.
Big money has always influenced politics, it's one of the few factors that hasn't changed but whilst I am desperate to see the end of 13 years of Tory mismanagement I have zero faith in Starmer, he is a "whiter shade of pale" lacking any sort of vision or desire for the big changes that are needed

Michael Gove announced a new definition for extremism.

The new definition will define extremism as "the promotion or advancement of an ideology based on violence, hatred or intolerance, that aims to:

1. negate or destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms of others; or

2. undermine, overturn or replace the UK's system of liberal parliamentary democracy and democratic rights; or

3. intentionally create a permissive environment for others to achieve the results in (1) or (2)."

This means that Michael Gove should define himself as an extremist. Because he's promoting an ideology based on intolerance. He's being intolerant of the intolerance or hatred of others. And he's destroying the fundamental rights of others to be intolerant or to feel hatred.

It's a great big fat ironic joke. With serious consequences. The biggest quasher of freedom in the UK over the last 50 years has been The Government. With Labour and the Conservatives being about as bad as each other over this period.

That's a very good summing up of Gove, and it doesn't even mention his Coke habit.

Being intolerant of extremism makes me an extremist - or have I misunderstood the government's ruling?
