Here's an idea for football. For the years inbetween World Cups, introduce an FA Cup style World Cup.

All nations in the world can compete.

The lowest ranked teams have a couple of preliminary knock-out rounds.

The first proper round of the FA World Cup has 128 teams in it. Randomly drawn. Knock out. Either single leg with a replay for a draw. Or played over 2 legs (home and away).

To be played when the nations would otherwise have been playing friendlies.


Only trouble is, this competition may have to wait until the reintroduction of supersonic commercial passenger jets, due to the travel involved when a European side has to play New Zealand, or a South American side has to play Uzbekistan.

Here's an idea for football hooligans.

With their level of mindless violence, stupidity, aggression and lack of respect for everyone they should all be sent off to put themselves up against a group with a similar ethos - ISIL

Holland are out too.

It's a shame Germany, Spain, France, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay, Iceland qualified. Without them England might have had half a chance of reaching the Quarter Finals.
