A little light entertainment

For Christmas, we gave ourselves an Apple TV unit and a Netflix subscription.

Great fun! Image and sound quality are terrific (HDMI & Toslink).

I have just discovered a new (for me) series called 'Warehouse 13', this is a very entertaining show full of humour, action, special effects and general oddness. It comes across as a cross between 'Doctor Who' and 'The X Files' and will appeal to fans of both.

Over the weekend a friend just gave me a Sony SA-W10 active subwoofer she had lying about unused in her barn, her husband passed away recently and she was clearing out the rubbish.

Having cleaned the dust, cobwebs and bird-droppings off it I was amazed to find that it still works. Although too slow and boomy for any sort of serious music use it does work wonders with the sound from the telly. For the first time I can get those great seat-shaking noises from all my old sci-fi movies. Yaay!

I completely agree. I wouldn't have a sub in my hifi system, there's no need apart from anything else, but for watching telly/blu-rays etc I enjoy the extra "rumble" where it's required. Films like "Avengers Assemble" and it's ilk really benefit.

It's here at last - but was it worth the wait ??

The new Star Trek: Discovery series kicked off yesterday on Netflix with the opening double-episode introducing the new crew, ship and Klingons (!?)

Well - it isn't like any other Star Trek incarnation and it might take a while to get used to it.

Anyone wanting a really enthralling and entertaining series needs to check out Netflix's latest offering :

The Umbrella Academy.

Image

A character-driven, humorous 'superhero' series about a team of odd misfits who have weird gifts trying to save the world from an impending apocalypse.

This series has it all, from donut-addicted assassins to intellectual chimpanzees. It's funny and touching and exciting. A sort of intelligent version of the X-Men who all should be in therapy.

Anyway, I like it. :guiness;

And while you're at it, if you haven't seen Luc Besson's 'Lucy'
(starring the thinking-man's crumpet Scarlet Johansson) - then you should.

The premise is - normal human beings use about 10% of their brain's capacity, what happens if a person can access 100%?

File under: Philosophical action-thriller.

Good film - weird ending

I recently enjoyed Mayans MC - spin off from Sons of Anarchy
