Interesting what you said about 'bad' discs Jammy. I find that some discs (usually mainstream bands such as Oasis) are unplayable on a decent hi-fi system, but sound fine in the car... which is where they are now.

So much music was mixed for lo-fi.

That's why so many albums need the remaster treatment. Although that is not always a guaranteed improvement.

Oasis records are not meant to sound like Steely Dan records. But I still say if a sytem cannot make sense of an Oasis recording there is something wrong with it. I have a copy of 'What's The Story'...' that I always use for testing when I have made a change.

It is all relative, and also reflects personal levels of tolerance.

LOL - but yes, sort of....Oasis is produced in a way so as to make your hi-fi sound like a PA system at a gig. It is deliberate, it is not that way because the engineer didn't know what he was doing or couldn't be arsed.

It sounds very bad on some systems because they have been voiced to make some snooze-fest like The Blue Nile or Diana Krall (or something similar) sound exciting. Try it on a smooth, low distortion system that can do low bass properly and you will hear it as it was intended. if your system is already like that and it still sounds shit then I can't help you :)

The oasis wall of sound is fine for tracks like cigarettes and alcohol and rock and roll star , but it is a disaster on songs like wonderwall and champagen supernova which are crying out for a little more air and space and a definable acoustic .

Oasis Only listenable whilst getting ready to go out whilst doing the white line ;)
