The first LP I bought was The Beatles' 'White Album' (I got 'Rubber Soul" as a Christmas present a few years earlier).

The first CD I bought was 'Floored Genius: The Very Best of Julian Cope & The Teardrop Explodes'.

First album - Rockbuster, a CBS double album (at the extortionate cost of 19s 11d) featuring many of their top acts of the time not to mention many 'lesser' names. It's still a great album and I still own it.

My nephew was supposed to be EMI's English version of Jimmy Osmond, but he made a couple of record and then sunk from view and was dropped by EMI still only 13 years old. His life was made a misery by the other kids at his school who called him "top of the flops", he became a depressive and turned to drugs in his late teens and died in his early 30's from heroin and anti depressants overdose. There were a couple of BBC documentaries about him.
