Re: Headphones
Picked up my new Grado SR80i, man they are good especially on something with a heavy beat, fun, (seemingly) fast and foot taping. BUT overall for information especially subtle musical information and rhythm, which is a NVA speciality, the Pioneer Monitor 10s urinate on them from an elevated height.
In reality the Pioneers are just as fast but not just with the music as a lump thrown at you as with the Grado but with every thread of the music and its different nature according to the instrument or voice. For me the Grados are like a good flat earth system like exposure, where as the Pioneers are really NVA like.
This is direct off the Sony CD player, I will have to wait until I build my Jammy Big Bastard Headphone Amp then it should all be thrown into sharper perspective.

Re: Headphones
Grado's can sure boogie! Others may find their presentation at times a tad ''earthy''
What ''heavy beat'' music have you played through the Grado's, Richard?

What sort of earpads did you order? It's worth trying Sennheiser HD414 pads even though they're bright yellow.Fretless wrote:Have ordered some new earpads for my SR80's, it's time to give them a reappraisal - haven't used them for a while.

Re: Headphones
I am swinging back a bit to the Grados. They are seriously uncouth compared with the Pioneer which is liquid music. Listening to Ella and Louis. Ellas voice on the Mon10s (I will us this for shorthand) is sublime, on the SR80 a little sibilant and edgy, but Louis voice and trumpet crack out on the SR80s with a live realism where as the Mon10s make him just a bit too polite
This will be fun, nothing definitive until JBBHA (Jammy's Big Bugger Headphone Amp) comes on line. First one I finish tomorrow for a customer, so watch this thread for *can you believe it* excitement in *The Headphone Wars*, coming to you on this Bat Channel, the incomparable HFS.

Re: Headphones
On Wallace's recommendation I have ordered the High-end pads as used on the SR325. Should improve bass and make them less uncouth.slinger wrote:What sort of earpads did you order? Re: Headphones
Some people put a strip of black plastic tape round the outside edge of the bowls to get more bass,i tried it ,but it was a step too far for me. they look homemade enough already...Fretless wrote:Should improve bass and make them less uncouth.
