AP80 stepped attenuator?

Hello all. I was a member over at the old forum, and have been lurking around here from time to time but only just joined.

I just picked up an AP80 with some LS5 cable on eBay for what I thought was a good price. I was really after the LS5 cable for my AP70, but couldn't let the opportunity go so now have an AP70 and AP80 sitting here (and old metal boxed AP30 and A60!).

The amp seems in great condition and appears to have a stepped attenuator volume control. Were all / some AP80s made with stepped attenuators or is this a 3rd party mod?

The was an option for SA on AP80 so it could be ours or 3rd party.

Is there any way to tell, other than lifting the lid?

24 positions including the extremes.

Ours are 24 step so it likely ours but there are other 24 step out there, anyway I wouldn't worry about it, just enjoy it.

Well it's a step up in sound from my AP70, but that could be the extra power supplies, the stepped attenuator, the LS5 or any combination. I'd guess mostly the LS5 though.

I wouldn't overlook the A80's, I have found them to be supreme amps!

Perhaps you should say so at AoS, everyone there thinks you have changed to valves.
