Bit like hi-fi, some of them are crap and out of tune and some of them are sublime. I can tell you one thing for certain, no matter what down sides exist if I don't have one in my life at some level even if it is going out a couple of times a week with a girlfriend then I am miserable.

As somebody who did a course in feminist theory at Uni , I would just like to stick up for a female friends here . There is no doubt women are different from men , whether this is nature, nurture or both is irrelevant , they are different and thats the way it is for now and possibly for ever . And yet , it is this difference which beguiles and yet annoys men.

Yet there is no doubt they are less harmful than men . 2 men a week will kill thier female partners , women killing thier partners is so low no official stats are keep but it will make front page news .

Current prison population - men - 82,000 - women 4,000.

It is all about biology, obviously man is stronger physically so when he loses it then he goes to his "go to" solution, which is physical. A woman is far more subtle, and has to be and that has been developed genetically for millions of years. Her "go to" solutions are emotional and mental weapons, which if they don't drive the man bonkers or to suicide could then lead to him using his basic "go to" solution. For women the number 1 weapon has always been sex, be a good boy and you may get it, be a bad boy and then you don't, so some men take it - it is the same in all animals apart from spiders

Well the lunatics have taken over the asylum. If you want to see basic human behaviour then observe a tribe of Bonobo or Chimps. Its all there in its basic form. OK we now call ourselves civilised, but that is still just painting over the cracks of nature. The trouble with all this latest political correctness is they think the paint is the reality, far from it. The desire to be a Benobo is still in our brains and body but social convention and the law act as a brake.

The eventual solution is genetic engineering as the problem is genetic, but it seems we are not ready for that yet - bring it on I say.

Weve argued this before and as with many theorits of your generation :D you underplay the social and the influence of language upon evolutionary traits .

A chimp just does , it can not be reflexive or use language . The interpration of experience , socialisation and the material world through langauge not only allows us to understand the world , it also undermines, modifes and changes our basic biologIcal behaviour . Socities dont suppress human nature they change it . Nothing is set in stone as a consequence , there is no longer such a thing as human nature which stays the same for ever.

Thus sexual relations are not set in stone .

There as now nueroscientists who are arguing that trauma , poor diet and other factors in early children determine how thier synapses connect in the brain and therefore pre-dispose them to agressive behaviour . Long after me and you are arguing about this in the afterworld , the fact we explained human behaviour as analogous to animals and employed the concept of human nature in 21st century capitalist socities will be seen as dum and quaint .
