Two from the Romanic root - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturnalia and also one to celebrate the god Bacchus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brumalia celebrated by getting pissed
One from the Germanic root - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule
Absolutely nothing to do with Christ mass, it came about to help the Romans convert to Christianity, so all the old pagan festivals were hi-jacked and given Christian themes. There are no records of when Jesus was born or died (or if he existed at all) so the two most important Roman festivals were hijacked as Christmas and Easter. Easter being the more genuine as it follows the moon which all pagan festivals did, and still do in (so called) pagan cultures like China and India.
So being half German (Jewish blood but forced Christian convert) and half lowland Scot I will celebrate Yule, and maybe a nod to Hanukkah http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanukkah and of course some Brumalia
Or to use the immortal words - Bah Humbug!!
MERRY SATURNALIA / YULE
