Ron Howden (78)

Drummer of Prog/Psych stalwarts Nektar. A band still going after 54 years .
Nektar were/are preparing material for a new (!) album and Howden passed away 'in the saddle' whilst working on this.

I remember trying to get into "Escalator Over The Hill" years ago and failing miserably. It starts out so promisingly too as I remember, and then all of the musicians start playing different songs.

Sad news. Carla Bley was fantastic live, her warmth and drole sense of humour came across and her music was more accesable than on some of her albums. I recomend Songs With Legs and Are We There Yet, due to the fact that there aren't too many musicians vying for attention and the tunes are mostly adhered to. I always thought her playing was percusive (what does that even mean?) and her work with Steve Swallow reflected their relationship, they were so in tune with one another. Her work introduced me to so many of the jazz greats, of which she was one.

Geordie Walker Killing Jokes guitarist, I'm really sad about this to say the least.

Geordie - the man of the spine-chilling riffs.

On a less surprising note Shane MacGowan has gone at 65. Having seen him relatively regularly in a Highgate pub in the 2000's, I'm amazed he's gotten this far. He and M. E. Smith seemed to have an appetite for epic self destruction which is a shame as I miss Smith, and I loved the Pogues.

Certainly I'll mourn him more than that butcher Kissinger & Captain Alistair Darling.

He's finally reached the end of his road to self-destruction. RIP Shane.
