Other non-hifi forums?

Unread post by Gromit »

Who else here has a life (is there one? :D ) outside of hifi forums?

I'm an avid motorcycling fan - have been since my first game of m/c Top Trumps when I was about 10 years old but have been riding bikes since I was 16, so well over 30 years now. As a result I pop into these places every so often...

boxertrix.com (this is my own forum/website dedicated to BMW motorcycles)
advrider.com
B.I.R.D. (Honda Blackbird forum)

Also...

piano-tuners.org (for all acoustic piano discussion)
Sources: Macbook/Sony CDP-X303ES/TEAC UD-H01 dac & Sony PS-6570/Benz Micro ACE SL
Making it louder: Sonneteer Sedley/Sonneteer Campion
Speakers: Royd Sapphire
Hooking it all up: NVA Soundcord & NVA LS6

I used to post on Tai-Chi and martial arts forums, but was considered too argumentative  Interestingly on some of the US martial art forums they aren't just keyboard warriors, they want to come and challenge you and sort you out. One UK guy turned up at a class but I wasn't there :o  he didn't come back though.

Back about 20 years ago there was a period known as the Wing Chun wars, because of a split in the UK hierarchy different so called masters were turning up at rival classes and issuing challenges, until the police got fed up and prosecuted a couple of them. Think yourself lucky this doesn't happen in hi-fi :violence-blades:

I'm a Honda S2000 owner, and am regularly on the S2K forum. The moderators there are dragons, but that's because it's allied to a US comercial site, so if there's any hint that you might be trying to sell anything you are closed down right away. it was interesting initially to see what you could get away with but they were fierce, so I gave up and just read some of the other stuff. It is a mine of technically useful stuff., if thta's what turns you on.and driving one of the S2000s is an amazing experience, much recommended for anyone with a hint of petrol in their makeup.

Being an Alfa fan, I'm on a couple of Alfa forums. Lot of good people and great sources of info.

I looked at a Brera before I got the S2000, very sexy looking too, but not half the car the 1750 veloce from the 80s was, if ithadn't rusted.
Get yourself a rear wheel drive, and taste the diference.

That's the one I meant. Rust bucket, but what style!
Accelerate hard and the front wheels skittered everywhere. Torque steering to be polite.
I tell you, drive the back wheels.

Both listed were rear wheel drive. The only classic Alfa with front wheel drive was the Sud, and the Sprint Veloce version was one of the prettiest cars made.

Gosh, I had forgotten that transaxle layout.
Quite right rear. What a clod.
