Yes

'The Yes Album'
'Fragile'
'Close to the Edge'

Image

An immersion in the Yes catalogue has me obsessively charting the course of the band through its many changes and styles.

However the 'Holy Trinity' that saw them emerge from obscurity to World Domination are getting the most attention.

These three received the Steven Wilson remix treatment in 2013 but I find them to be too clinical to be enjoyable, also the remasters of the original versions in this edition are dull and lifeless.

Going back to the 2003 Rhino remasters gives a far better result with excellent depth and detail highlighting the intricacies of every member's performance.

Classic stuff! :music-listening:

I really like the Steve Wilson Yes and Jethro Tull remixes. The recent one of Broadsword and the Beast is excellent with good DR.

We Came From Space - Overlords.

Another one I found on Bandcamp. We Came From Space reminded me a bit of groups like Supertramp and Caravan.

U.K. 'Night After Night' (1979)

Image

I have been off the radar for a while due to health issues, things are starting to look up up a little (for me anyway, my wife is another story) but music keeps me afloat in this difficult time and an album that has been giving me a lot of pleasure recently is this live release from the short-lived U.K. .

Starting originally as an attempt by john Wetton and Bill Bruford to relaunch King Crimson (Fripp said No), hence the 'United Kingdom' moniker. They then tried for an ELP-style trio with Rick Wakeman (his management said No). So they recruited Allan Holdsworth who had played guitar on Bruford's first solo LP and Eddie Jobson was stolen from Zappa's band (Wetton worked with him in Roxy Music). A 'Supergroup' of sorts was created.

First album 'U.K.' was mainly a superior Jazz-Rock outing, internal friction caused Bruford and Holdsworth to leave and continue that direction with the band 'Bruford'. Wetton and Jobson called in drummer Terry Bozzio, another Zappa sideman, and went towards song-driven Rock with the superb 'Danger Money' album.

They toured Japan where it was customary for bands to record a live album only for release there, the result became so popular that it sold enormous quantities as an import in Australia and the US. Musically this is a powerful mix of spectacular instrumental showmanship with Jobson's keys, synths and electric violin excelling, Bozzio's powerhouse drumming and Wetton reminding us of the mighty basswork underpinning his King Crimson years.

Sadly this lineup fell apart shortly afterwards; Wetton's next step being the Arena-Rock megaband Asia with Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and Geoff Downes. The legacy of U.K. has grown in stature and rightly become a part of Prog history.

Great music. :banana-guitar:

Good to see you back on the radar Fret and hope you are feeling better soon. All the best for the health of your wife.

This dark grey wet winter and long nights was really getting me down so I have been in Kenya for some time in need of sun shine. Am fortunate to have a wife from there and family to stay with. When I return the days will be as long as the nights which I find uplifting, especially when the clocks go forward.

Have been chilling out and playing lots of albums through AQ DF and headphones. A great Bruce Dickinson one has come out since I have been away as well as a good one from Judas Priest.Currently playing one of the best albums from last year,Scorpions - Rock Believer, with a cool Guiness foreign export. Seems to be the only beer/stout you can get here. I am not a great lager lover. :guiness; :banana-guitar: :banana-guitar: :character-beavisbutthead:
