Re: Ask a designer
There are cables, those used for some headset microphones for instance, that I can strip with my finger nails. Others require rather more grip and PTFE insulation on very small wires is a complete pain. Some aviation insulation would be impossible with teeth and can even be difficult to strip with the correct approved tools.

Re: Ask a designer
If you have a solid state amplifier with a damping factor of 4000 ( http://www.hegel.com/products/integrated/h360 )
is there likely to be some trade off in the overall sound quality to achieve this?
EG like a load of components in the signal path that wouldn't have to be there in an amplifier with a damping factor of 200?

Re: Ask a designer
Are there any disadvantages from putting a power amplifier power supply in a separate enclosure to the rest of it ?
Increased impedance from length of umbilical?

Re: Ask a designer: BALANCED MAINS
Doc
If balanced mains are so brilliant, why are power supplies not made that way in the first place?

Re: Ask a designer
They could be but it would over complicate things. One big transformer to feed the lot is far more cost effective, you would need an extra transformer in every box.

Re: Ask a designer
How loud would 0.1 watts be through a high efficiency speaker like an EV Patrician 800?
How loud would 0.1 watts be through an "average" efficiency speaker like a Heybrook HB1?
Are amplifiers capable of feeding a signal of 1 microwatt to a speaker?
How loud would this be through the two speakers mentioned above?
Sorry for this being a bit of a time-waste. I already know the answers to these questions, but I've been told in no uncertain terms that I need help on this topic.

Re: Ask a designer
As loud as you hear it as loud. If it is loud it is distorting as loudness is a factor of distortion not power.
