Grobschnitt 'Solar Music Live' (1978)
Grobschnitt 'Sonnentanz' (1985)
Regarded as the band's magnum opus, 'Solar Music' is a piece that Grobschnitt played at almost every concert they ever did. A sprawling, semi-constructed improvisational jam that could last up to a hour (their gigs often ran over 3 hours of continual playing). The first live album version from 1978 has them in Gong / Hillage trippy spacerock mode and is a real lie-back-with-the-lights-out experience.
'Sonnentanz' has the 80's version of the group sounding very different. Harder and faster with more synths and a prominent saxophone. A long way removed from the first appearance of 'Solar Music' on their second LP 'Ballermann'. Still it is very impressive here with the power and tight interplay that Grobschnitt had developed through the years.
