No pimping required: I have the money but I also set a budget each year and there is only £450 left in it. If I didn't set a budget I would be totally skint :) But exceptions can be made and I suppose I could always try to sell some stuff come the Autumn.

The stack on eBay is collection only so that is out.

I've only got 2 sockets for the hi-fi and one is used for a distribution block that runs the TT - CD - Phono stage - so with monoblocks I would have to wire both to the same plug which I am told is fine but I don't really like the idea. Does anyone else do this?

Shevan's A40 monos are tempting but how much more power do they have compared to the A30?

I was offered some A80s a while back at a reasonable price, not sure if they are still available though. But if I buy new I can trade in the A30

Would the A60 power amp be a significant step up?

Sorry lots of questions would appreciate some input from anyone.

A60 would probably be next best step and with the A30 traded back you have enough in the kitty, it is a clearly audible and serious step up. A BMU (NVA or not) is still something you should seriously think about later.

What the Man says ....
Go for it Macca!

Like the budget idea, very sensible way of curbing addictive tendencies (like mine). :guiness;

I never used to need a budget because I never had any real money to squander on hi-fi. Problem is lessons learned in those penny-pinching days still affect my behaviour now.

I will ruminate on the A60 for a couple of hours.

In case anyone is wondering why things have stalled I have, on 5th Sept, a gadgee coming to read my meters (gas and electric, not level) - they have not done this in years and years and I reckon they owe me a fair bit of money - like well into 4 figures. Since this is sort of 'found money' I intend to plough al of it into the system to try to get it up to scratch. So as soon as I have an exact figure from them the spending will commence.

Not used any gas in 2 and a half years, paying £60 a month for it. I'm pretty sure.
