'The Keith Emerson Band' (2008)

Image

Keith Emerson decided to revisit the sound and style of ELP with this millenial line-up featuring guitarist/singer Marc Bonilla. The trademark vituoso classical Grand Piano, raging riffs on Hammond Organ, majestic church organs and manic synthesizer effects are all very much in evidence. A tight and responsive rhythm section keeps the proceedings tastefully rocky (when necessary) and stay out of the limelight to let Keith's keyboards shine. Bonilla sings more like John Wetton than Greg Lake - but his performance is worthwhile and not irritating.

A must-listen for ELP fans.

One of the rockier tracks as a taster:

What a welcome change to hear the Strawbs mentioned in dispatches, "FROM THE WITCHWOOD" and "ALL OUR OWN WORK" being two particular fav's.

'Hero and Heroine' is an all-time favourite of mine. 'Ghosts' was the follow-up to that and is an album I have missed out on - really superb album in a similar vein to H&H.
