Is there really no provision in UK law for self defence with a weapon? Not even when being assaulted by multiple attackers? It's not like the guy was 'fighting'.

'heat of the moment' vs 'premeditated' would be important...I imagine.

It is reported that he had bruises so there was obviously a struggle and he was merely defending himself.

How have you come to that conclusion? It's reported after he was locked in the kitchen , he ran after them stabbing one. We will have to wait the police enquiry.

If he was 'left' in his kitchen by the burglars...... then he left his premises and stabbed one I can see how it would be seen as murder.

He just should have finished em both off 'in his kitchen'

There is no point in putting a 78 years old man in jail.

Just saw the latest report on Sky News. No mention of him being locked in the kitchen. The only witness is likely to be the one that got away and his word will not count for much. If someone breaks into your house and assaults you, he had bruises, it is a matter of self preservation and if a knife is handy so be it.

I have a new business model, employ a team of 78 year old folk as Assassins for hire.

Not if the burglar is escaping when you knife him..

On a 78 yr old man going to prison, it should be just the same as a 19 year old. What if he was a pedal or Nazi criminal. The law should not discrimate age. Just ask Rolf Harris.
